Brittany & Kevin's Pond House Cafe Wedding Flowers
The Pond House Cafe in West Hartford is nestled within the beautiful Elizabeth Park. It features a lovely terrace that overlooks the water. This setting is softer and more intimate than a big open field. It calls for flowers that evoke the same feeling. When Brittany and Kevin chose this venue, they envisioned a palette of blush, white, and mauve. This color scheme was the thread that ran through every piece of their special day.

The Bridal Bouquet
Brittany's bouquet was lush and layered. It featured blush Cloni ranunculus, chocolate lisianthus, Pink Powder Puff roses, Café Latte roses, Playa Blanca roses, Jeanine spray roses, larkspur, astilbe, amaranthus, fragrant stock, sweet pea, and a touch of eucalyptus. For the mauve tones, I used dyed Brownie tulips and added dried bunny tails for texture. The amaranthus and white lisianthus came from my farm in Sterling. I tied the bouquet with blue satin ribbon as her something blue.

One Design, Four Sizes
Instead of giving each attendant a different bouquet, I created smaller versions of Brittany's bouquet for the bridesmaids, the mother of the bride, and the flower girl. All were designed in the posy style. This approach allowed the party to appear as one family of flowers walking down the aisle. Brittany's bouquet was the fullest, while the flower girl's was the smallest. Each bouquet was hand-tied and wrapped in antique white satin ribbon.

Boutonnieres
Kevin and his groomsmen wore textural boutonnieres. These featured mauve lisianthus, seeded eucalyptus, dried bunny tails, and pieris, echoing the mauve tones from the bouquets.

The Terrace Ceremony
The ceremony took place on the terrace overlooking the pond. I tied small arrangements to the ceremony chairs. These arrangements included roses, spray roses, antique pink lege carnations, fragrant white stock, and eucalyptus, all finished with dusty rose satin ribbon. With such a stunning view, the flowers should complement rather than compete with it. The small arrangements along the chairs framed the aisle beautifully, carrying the color palette without blocking the view of the water or gardens.
The Reception
Brittany provided silver mercury glass vases for the centerpieces. I filled them with the same florals, adding touches of dusty blue at her request. The vases sat on her grandmother's heirloom lace doilies, with vintage books and antique candlesticks flanking the flowers. Vintage records served as table numbers, adding a personal family touch.
The sweetheart table featured a large installation made mainly from white hydrangeas, Powder Puff roses, Brownie tulips, chocolate lisianthus, blush Cloni ranunculus, and white ammi. A low piece adorned the top of the table, surrounded by ivory candles in hurricane glasses. Two larger arrangements flanked the left and right sides of the table, also surrounded by ivory candles.

Planning Your Wedding Flowers
If you're considering a wedding at the Pond House, there are a few things to keep in mind. Elizabeth Park is home to the oldest public rose garden in the country, boasting over fifteen thousand rose bushes. Brittany and Kevin took a stroll through the rose garden arches for their photos, and the setting truly speaks for itself. Peak bloom occurs from mid-to-late June, with roses continuing to bloom on and off into October. Be sure to build some time into your timeline for this beautiful backdrop, and mention it to your photographer early on.
The Pond House shines when the flowers harmonize with the setting. If you're planning a wedding there, I would love to help you create something special. Many of the flowers in my designs are grown on my farm in Sterling. I always plan around what's in season and at its best for your special day.
